How to schedule your free local pickup
1. Tell us about your Lancaster-area vehicle

2. Choose a pickup time that works locally
We’ll contact you to schedule a free pickup window that fits your schedule and local access. In-town Lancaster and nearby suburbs often have more flexible times; rural addresses may have slightly fewer daily slots. We’ll coordinate around things like narrow streets, alley access, or farm drives so the truck can reach your vehicle safely.
3. Prepare your title and clear the vehicle
Before pickup day, locate your Pennsylvania title and remove personal items and license plates. We’ll let you know how to sign the title for donation. If you’re missing paperwork, let us know—sometimes we can still help. Make sure the vehicle is unlocked or keys are accessible for the tow driver.
4. Meet (or safely arrange access for) the tow driver
On the pickup day, our local towing partner will arrive at the agreed time window. In many cases, you don’t need to be home if we’ve pre-arranged title exchange and access. The driver will handle loading, basic paperwork, and removal at no cost to you, even in tight Lancaster city streets or shared parking lots.
5. Receive your tax receipt and confirmation
After your vehicle is sold, we’ll mail you a tax receipt, typically showing a value of at least $500. If the vehicle sells for more than $500, you can use IRS Form 1098-C for your federal return. Your gift then supports Heritage for the Blind’s mission serving people who are blind or visually impaired, including right here in Lancaster County.

Tip: Many Lancaster city homes only have alley or street parking. Let us know in advance if your vehicle is in an alley, parallel parked on a narrow street, or in a rear lot. We’ll plan the right truck and pickup angle so the driver can safely load the car without blocking a bus route or busy intersection.
Apartment, HOA, or permit-parking rules
Tip: If you live in a complex near areas like Greenfield, Manheim Township, or around Millersville University, your HOA or landlord may have towing or parking rules. Check whether we need a gate code, parking permit details, or property manager approval. Sharing that info when you schedule helps avoid last-minute delays for the driver.
Rural lanes and farm driveways in Lancaster County
Tip: Outlying roads near Strasburg, Quarryville, New Holland, or along farm tracts can be narrow, unpaved, or steep. Tell us if your driveway is tight, muddy, or has low branches so we can send an appropriate truck or pick a safe meeting point on a more accessible road to complete your free pickup smoothly.
Missing Pennsylvania title or very old vehicles
Tip: If your car has been sitting in a barn, field, or back lot for years and you’ve misplaced the PA title, don’t give up. Let us know the situation and we’ll explain what may be possible. If at-home pickup is tricky
If at-home pickup is difficult—for example, because your car is tucked deep in a barn, behind other vehicles, or on a lane a tow truck truly can’t reach—we can often arrange a nearby meeting spot on a wider road, parking lot, or friend’s driveway in Lancaster County. In a few rare cases, it may be easier for you to have a local mechanic or neighbor move the vehicle to an accessible area first.
